The Best USB Laptop Speakers 2011
By thooghun
Welcome to the under appreciated world of portable laptop USB speakers. I look back now, at my crowded university days when 10 of us would gather round the pitiful PC speakers of my decaying laptop and watch YouTube videos, and smile. Those days are gone, now that I have discovered the convenience of a pair of funky, cheap USB speakers (yes, the glory university days are also dust).
The advantages to acquiring USB speakers should be obvious, music everywhere and at any time. USB power nowadays in enough to make the plug and play commodity of having portable speakers highly desirable. Simply put: no wires, no tangles, just slap the speakers in, lay back and enjoy a moment of peace -- wherever you are.
The stylish B-Flex
We begin with these funk B-Flex portable travel speakers, that at first glance could pass for stylized rear-review mirrors. But this model is the Harley of both design and popularity in the USB speaker world. Technical details illustrate the point meticulously:
- Plug and play for PC and Mac. Uses only USB power, no wires or batteries!
- Easy to use. Incredibly compact and portable. Great for travel!
- Produces crystal clear sound with dual 1-watt digital amps and 2 high output, full range micro drivers.
- Patent pending flexible design allows you to totally customize your listening experience by flexing the speaker into virtually any position.
- This amazing gadget was featured in the NY Times, on ABC News, in WIRED magazine, and on virtually every gadget site in the world.
This model comes in many different colors that promise to match the color of your laptop's frame. While these USB speakers will not substitute a pricey full-blown stereo system, they are more than enough to ensure a heightened music and gaming experience.
Logitech V20 Notebook Speakers
Take your classic high-class speaker looks, combine them with the latest in technology and add a sprinkly of portability and you have the highly popular Logitech V20 Notebook speakers. These speakers promise a high-quality sound without the fuzzy bass that usually marks portable speakers. In short, greater volume with less distortion.
- Box Content - V20 notebook speakers, Integrated USB cable, Protective travel case, Quick start guide
- Offers greater volume with less distortion and combined with the 2 inch Max-X high-excursion drivers and 3 inch pressure drivers
- Lightweight, portable design that folds away easily in the protective travel case
- Plug & Play Connection - USB provides power and digital quality audio, no other cables are necessary
- Total RMS Power - 2 Watts into 4 ohms at 1 kHz at 10% total harmonic distortion (THD)
What attracts me most about this is probably the design. I am something of a retro-fan myself and these look and sound like home AC drive stereo speakers! The funky multimedia controls also put this squarely in my must-have list.
DR. BOTT Chill Pill Mobile Speakers
Cheap speakers with a distinctive and awesome design. I would also like to add that I prefer the black model, but they are available in many different colors.
So what's different about DR BOTT's speakers? For starters the speakers are charged via lithium ion batteries (which are conveniently recharged by your USB port or by a standalone AC charger). Secondly, the design. The actually do manage to look like psychedelic pills, and to make matters even cooler the pills click together magnetically when you travel!
- Compact Size: The Chill Pill is enclosed in a rugged, matte-black case that protects the speakers, batteries and retractable cables.
- Balanced Sount: *Two high-quality speakers are powered by a self contained battery. *Interference free retractable cables.
- Rechargeable lithium ion battery provides six hours of playing time.
- Can be charged from a computers USB port or via optional AC adapter (not included)
- EXPANDABLE: The Chill Pill has three different modes for traveling and listening to music, audiobooks, or podcasts
Most amazon reviewers declare that they were surprised by the high quality sound, given how inexpensive the model is. In the words of Stuart B Shatles from Florida: " I don't think you can find better speakers for the price and portability."
