An Idiot's Step By Step Guide To Increase Traffic

Forget SEO Gurus (at least for now)
Marketing your hubs and articles is a never ending process, which will infuriate you at first. But with the correct routine you can make a decisive step forwards and begin to make some headway in a world dominated by competitive content and advertising.
My goal with this hub was to make a no-nonsense, step-by-step guide for those of us who are not terribly interested in SEO principles and jargon. This is a simple guide on how to build a routine that will generate a solid amount of long-term traffic on its own, without hiring an expert or relying on luck to make a little money.
The process
- Think of a topic or an idea - If you are writing an article or a hub, thing about what you are writing about. If you are making a website, think about what it is going to be about (the more specific the better).
- Think of keywords which best fit your topic of choice - For instance, some inital keywords for a website about dogs could be: breed, dogs, pets or collar.
- Go to Google Keywords and type those keywords in the text field - After filling in the CAPTCHA you should get a list of relevant keywords.
- Add a price per click column to the list - You'll want to know how well a link pays. Theres not much point tapping into a field that pays virtually nothing, when a single click from another keyword can generate 100 times as much adsense revenue.
- Play with the sort feature until you have found the following - A high pay per click keyword that isn't overly flooded by competition (the green bar) that generates sufficient traffic.
- Add these newfound keywords as either hub tags or meta tags - If you are writing a hubpages article, use these newfound keywords as tags for your article. If you are working on a website, add these as meta tags.
- Write in-depth and well - While it is relatively easy to create one-time visitors, the only real ones that count are the returning customers. Write well, and they will. Don't and they won't, would you? Simple.
- Including modules and interactivity - Not a flood, but enough to make the article or website more aesthetically pleasing. A news module's benefit on hubpages is the constant generation of fresh content on your article. Google will take note.
Post Production Marketing
- Go to similar websites such as Squidoo or Infobarrel and create similar articles and create relevant links back to your previous work - This an easy and important step for SEO. It is a good way of promoting quality backlinks in the form of relevant and well written content. Do not scoff at hubpages as a source of backlinks. Some of my articles are as high as PR 3 or 4.
- Upload Xomblurbs about your Hubs onXomba. These are essentially a social bookmark with a NoFollow link. The upside is that it does attract attention and may help the word and backlink empire spread. A possible better alternative is SheToldMe, which seems to allow DoFollow links.
- Create Bookmarks and Syndicate your content - Using Redgage, it is a great traffic resource as well as yet another way to make some money with you hubs. An excellent tool for all hubbers.
- Submit your RSS feeds to free services that automatically ping your articles for you - Pingomatic and Feedping are two examples of spreading the word and creating even more backlinks.
- Travel to easysubmits - A website which will make the process of subscribing your blog or articles to directories, free and painless.
Additional Tips
Group your articles into topics. I do this for two reasons:
- You can check which group does better as a standalone entity. This will allow you to find a possible niche and source of revenue.
- You will be able to interlink all articles in this category for even more quality, relevant backlinks!
Don't forget to promote your profile page! (for hubpages users)
Employ as many relevant steps as you can to promote your profile page. Submit its feed (under your picture on the profile page) as well! Use it as a central hub and as a portfolio for your work. You can use it to advertise your hubs and help users find your most popular articles.

Why havent You mentioned...?
There is a lot I am omitting. Social Bookmarking, forum trolling e.t.c. The reason why I-ve decided to fly in the face of SEO tradition is because this article is not intended for an audience that is willing to update and research SEO endlessly, but rather, for writers such as myself who just want a quick and easy solution for a modicum of solid traffic, without selling our souls to the SEO God.
The bottom-line is that these steps should be enough, in the long run and if continually exercised, to get your skills out into the Internet.

Thanks so much for detailing the forum response into a hub. I've only skimmed, but I've bookmarked it for a more intensive read later! Great stuff.
Thoogun, I like your writing style and your article was so easy and clear to read. Thanks.
thooghun - Is the "Price Per Click" column the same as the "CPC"? Thanks!
Yes. It does. I was just checking b/c in the hub you say to create a "PPC" column. I couldn't find that option, but I could find the "CPC" option and used that. I've added and altered some tags for a few of my hubs as an experiment... I'm excited to see if I notice any difference in the coming weeks. Thanks again.
Great information! Thanks so much.
The SEO god sent me here to tell you he is really po'd at this no-nonsense and easy to use guide. He says either put more nonsense in or experience his wrath. =:) Great helps and like some others, I will bookmark and say I will look at it in depth later...honest, I will, I will.
Great hub, Thoogun! FYI, the link you provide to Pingomatic actually points to Feedping...
Thumbs up and bookmarked for future reference!
Hello,
I enjoyed the read. I realize I've come a long way but of course learned something I never knew. Thanks and thanks Edweirdo for suggesting it.
